Springwatch: Bud of the Week

 

Fagus sylvatica f. purpurea - Copper beech 

Beech buds have a long, thin and elegant spindle shape.  1 - 2 cm in length, the buds are sharp-pointed and have a coppery-brown colour.

Tree 1650, in the north-west corner.
